Regals Offense Too Much for La Verne

LA VERNE, Calif. — The California Lutheran University women's volleyball team rode a strong offensive performance to their second win in a row. A 3-0 sweep of the La Verne Leopards has improved the Regals SCIAC record to 4-3.

Set 1 saw the Regals jump out to a 5-1 lead and never look back as they cruised to a 25-17 victory.

In Set 2, La Verne edged ahead until a kill from Maci Haddad tied the game at 6-6. That point was followed by a big block from Haddad and Sophia Muller that gave the Regals a lead that they would never relinquish. Cal Lutheran controlled the net and the Set on route to a 25-16 win.

The Leopards started Set 3 up 2-0 and held on until 10-10. A Kill from Tess Holbert and block from Holbert and Christina Williams gave the Regals control of the final set. The Regals' .433 team hitting percentage in the set helped them to a 25-14 win to finish off the 3-0 sweep.

Sophia Muller led the way with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .579. Lauren Heller was just behind Muller with 11 kills to go along with Maci Haddad's 8.

The offense was evenly distributed with setters Jenna Jones and Tess Holbert dishing out 16 and 13 assists respectively.

On the defensive side, Isabella Wade led with 14 digs while Christina Williams was an imposing presence with 7 block assists.

The Regals will be back home in Gilbert Arena for a break from their conference schedule with a match against the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz on Friday at 7pm.
