Regals Unable to Upset #1 Trinity (Tex.)

Cal Lutheran's Women's Volleyball team celebrated their first home match in 678 days by playing the #1 team in the nation, Trinity University.

The upper classmen heavy Trinity Tigers jumped on the Regals early in set 1 shooting out to a 6-0 lead. The Regals were never able to find a firm footing in the set and the Tigers continued to pull away on route to a 25-11 win.

Set 2 saw Cal Lutheran bring a higher level of aggression in their attack. Isabella Wade's move to libero for the second set helped bolster the Regal's serve receive and give the offense more options while Sadie Peete and Morgan Given found early success from the pins. The Regals used this to play point for point with the Tigers and stood at just a 10-12 deficit. From there Trinity was able to adjust to the Regal's added pressure and find their form again going on runs that led to a 22-13 lead. The set ended in Trinity's favor 25-14 with a set deciding ace.

The third set started 5-5 before Trinity took a 5 point run to a controlling 10-5 lead. Cal Lutheran slowly clawed back to 13-10 score behind an increased focus on getting the ball to middle hitters Maci Haddad and Christina Williams. From their the teams traded points till Trinity led 22-19. A Trinity kill and a pair of attack errors from the Cal Lutheran side finished the set 25-19 and the 3 sets to 0 in favor of the #1 Trinity Tigers.

The Regals offense was led by Maci Haddad with 5 kills to go along with a solo block. Isabella Wade led the defense with 8 digs.

The Regals will continue the East to West Battle on Saturday with matches against the College of Saint Benedict and Wash U.
