Carbullido, Opara, Singh Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Brendon CarbullidoZaria Opara and Jot Singh were selected as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Opara was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and earned Field Athlete of the Week. Carbullido was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Singh garnered the Men's Golfer of the Week. 

Carbullido (Redwood City, Calif.) paced Cal Lutheran in the field events at SCIAC No. 2 as he won the long jump and the triple jump. Carbullido registered a winning leap of 6.47 meters in the long jump, followed by a bound of 13.08 meters in the triple jump. 

Opara (Carnation, Wash.) led Cal Lutheran at SCIAC No. 2 as she excelled in the field events for the Regals. Opara won the discus throw with a toss of 40.62-meters, as well as the shot put throw with her toss of 11.00-meters. The junior also added a heave of 44.68-meters in the hammer throw to win the event. 

Singh (Jalandhar, Punjab, India) led Cal Lutheran at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate as the Kingsmen placed 15th in the field of 18 teams. Competing against a field that featured 95 golfers, Singh placed 19th overall carding a combined score of 149 on the strength of a 77 in round one, followed by a round of 72 on day two.
