Gardhouse, MacKinnon, Rickerman Tabbed SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Kaitlin GardhouseJake MacKinnon and Clay Rickerman were selected as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Gardhouse earned the honor for the third time in her career and is the Offensive Athlete of the Week award for women's water polo. MacKinnon and Rickerman were both selected Athlete of the Week for the first time. MacKinnon was Field Athlete of the Week for men's track and field and Rickerman was Pitcher of the Week for baseball. 

Gardhouse (Agoura Hills, Calif.) helped pace No. 7 Cal Lutheran to a 14-9 win over No. 5 La Verne, and a 14-3 victory over Caltech. Gardhouse netted six goals, assisted on two others, and added two drawn exclusions and a steal during the week. Against the Leopards, she scored two goals and added two assists, and then netted four goals in the win over the Beavers. 

MacKinnon (Orcutt, Calif.) Jake MacKinnon helped guide Cal Lutheran in the field events at SCIAC No. 3 as he won a pair of events and finished second in another. MacKinnon won the shot put throw with a heave of 13.45 meters, and claimed top honors in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.52 meters. His hurl of 40.09 meters in the discus placed him second. 

Rickerman (Granada Hills, Calif.) secured two wins in relief for Cal Lutheran as the Kingsmen dropped the first of three games to No. 23 Chapman, 5-4 before winning the next two (5-3 and 13-9) to secure the series. Rickerman scattered seven hits, allowed two unearned runs, and struck out three batters in three appearances that totaled 4.1 innings pitched. In both victories, Rickerman got Cal Lutheran out of a jam as the Kingsmen were able to pull away to a pair of victories.
