Cares Day Makes an Impact for All Student-Athletes; Still Time to Give

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran University community came together on April 6 for the school's annual Cares Day!

There were more than 25 different initiatives, and then athletics broke down to 22, that touch all aspects of campus life! Each team has its own page, as well as Women In Sport and Champions Fund. The generous gifts make it possible for Cal Lutheran students to make their own contributions within our community and beyond.

The site is still open and counting toward Cares Day totals. There is still time, you can make an impact here! The athletics department has raised just under 285 thousand dollars, from over 1,000 gifts, and is hoping to eclipse the 300 thousand mark.

You can still help! Your donation's help current student-athletes live up to and exceed the standards set by those who came before them. With your support, we are building champions.

"Cares Day for Cal Lutheran Cross Country/Track & Field was a very special day, and we exceeded our goal for money raised/gifts given," said Head Coach Brett Halvaks. "It was amazing to see all the gifts and support we received from alums, family and friends throughout the day. We are grateful for all the support that was shown to our team on Cares Day.

"With the money raised, we will be able to travel to overnight meets in. As an alum of these programs, some of my favorite memories from my four years on the team were traveling to overnight meets. I am looking forward to providing those same memorable experiences to the amazing student athletes on the team."

It is day's like Cares Day that we can show our student-athletes how much the Cal Lutheran community truly cares!

"Cares Day is a time where we can connect to people we have never connected with, or haven't connected with in a while," said Interim Men's and Women's Water Polo Head Coach Cody Pletcher. "That is important because we want Regals and Kingsmen water polo to feel like a family, and I believe our family grew on Cares Day.

"Our support tree is a little larger now due to everyone's vision of making our programs championship caliber programs for years to come. The Regals will use some of their Cares Day funds for new parkas and the Kingsmen will use their Cares Day funds for an additional trip to play better competition within season."

The day was more than giving! It was about sharing! Visit the Cares Day website, and you can see what people shared during Cal Lutheran Cares Day!
