Alonzo, Diaz, Dijkstra Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Jacob Alonzo, Jessica Diaz and Kemi Dijkstra were selected as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Alonzo (Camarillo, Calif.) earned his second athlete of the week honor this season as he was named the SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week. He was named the Defensive Athlete of the week earlier this season. Alonzo helped lead Cal Lutheran to a 2-1 week that featured a 100-76 victory over La Verne, an 88-64 win over Caltech, as well as a 70-69 loss to Redlands. Alonzo directed the Kingsmen attack dishing out 30 assists over the three games, including 14 in the win over the Beavers and eight each against the Leopards and Bulldogs. He scored 15 points per game, grabbed 16 boards, and registered 11 steals and two blocks. 

Diaz (Madera, Calif) was named SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week as she earned athlete of the week honors for the second time. She was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week in 2021. In No. 2 California Lutheran's narrow, 12-10 defeat to Division II Concordia Irvine, Diaz was solid in defense for the Regals, recording two steals, two field blocks. She added two drawn ejections. 

Dijkstra (Breda, Calif.) was named the SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career. In No. 2 Cal Lutheran's close 12-10 loss to Division II foe Concordia Irvine, Dijkstra led the Regals' offensive efforts netting four goals. She also added an assist, a drawn ejection, and a steal.
