Johnson, Morgan Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athletes Mason Johnson and Danielle Morgan were selected as Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. 

Johnson earned the men's basketball offensive award for the third time this season while Morgan received the women's basketball offensive award for the first time in her career

Johnson (Oxnard, Calif.) averaged a double-double on the week, as the Kingsmen defeated La Verne 88-76 and Whittier 91-75. With a double-double in each game, that gives him three double-doubles on the year. Against La Verne, the senior scored 25 points and grabbed 12 boards. He added three steals and three assists. Versus Whittier, he had a stat line of 25 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. 

Morgan (Lompoc, Calif.) helped drive Cal Lutheran to a 1-1 week in SCIAC play that featured a 63-55 win over Whittier, and a narrow, 71-67 loss to La Verne. Morgan averaged 24.0 points per game during the week shooting at a 66.7% clip from the field, including a 4-for-5 effort from three-point range, and a 66.7% mark from the free-throw line. She also pulled down 12 rebounds, dished out two assists and notched four steals during the week.

The teams are back in action on Wednesday versus Occidental. Regals are at home and Kingsmen are on the road with starting times set for 7 p.m.
