Eight Inducted at Cal Lutheran Alumni Hall of Fame Ceremony

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University Alumni Hall of Fame welcomed eight new names to the group as Tony Cohen, Richard Duran, Allie Hadley, Harry Hedrick, Richard Rider, Melissa Skiba, Robert Trevathan and Sinead Vaughan were honored at the induction ceremony on Saturday afternoon. 

Cohen was at Cal Lutheran 1989-94 and was on the men's tennis team. He was a two-time All-American, earning the singles honor in 1989 and doubles in '94. On the National stage, he was part of a NCAA Division III semi-finalist duo for doubles and was a three-time National Championship qualifier. He was a Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC, NAIA Division II) Singles Champion ('89), two-time Doubles Champion ('89 &'90) and helped lead the Kingsmen to a GSAC championship in 1989.

Duran played baseball and competed for the Kingsmen from 1976-78. Duran, a first baseman, was the first ever Kingsmen to hit (.400) in his freshman year of 1976, later breaking his own batting record in 1978 (.408). He has the distinguished honor of being the only Cal Lutheran player selected to the USA Collegiate National All-Star team. He was a NAIA All-American and a two-time All-NAIA District III honoree. In 1979, Duran signed a professional baseball contract with the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Hadley was a member of the women's track and field team from 2012-16. She is the first Cal Lutheran athlete to earn All-America all four years in the same event. Throwing the javelin, she qualified for the NCAA Championship every year. She took home gold during her senior season and also placed second, fourth, and seventh. Hadley is the CLU record holder in javelin (48.96 meters), which also ranks sixth all-time in NCAA Division III. She is a four-time SCIAC Champion, a member of the CLU Scholar-Athlete Society and was the USTFCCCA West Region Field Athlete of the Year in 2015.

Hedrick played football for the Kingsmen from 1975-78. One of the best wide receiver during the NAIA era, Hedrick was a Second Team All-American in 1977. He was also a two-time All-District III honoree. He still holds several all-time records despite having played at a time when passing was less prevalent. For a season, he ranks third in receptions (62), tied for sixth in receiving touchdowns (nine) and seventh in receiving yards (934). For his career, he ranks eighth in receiving touchdowns (14). He turned in one of the great individual performances in Cal Lutheran's history in the 1977 National semifinal win over Linfield (3 TDs, blocked punt, played WR and DB). Hedrick was also a three-year starter ('75 - '77) for Cal Lutheran Baseball. 

Rider coached Kingsmen Basketball from 1994-2016. He is the winningest basketball coach at Cal Lutheran, with 345 victories and three SCIAC Championships ('01, '08, & '15). He retired in November 2016, after 22 years at Cal Lutheran. He accumulated a record 345-207, one NCAA division III tournament appearance and 19 All-Conference players.

Skiba was a member of Regals Track and Field and Cross Country from 2012-15. One of the best runners in Cal Lutheran history, Skiba impressed during her three years earning five All-America awards. For Track & Field, she was the National Champion in the 5,000 meter (2015), was runner-up (2014) and also placed third (2013). She became the first All-American in the history of Cross Country and did it twice (2012 & '13). She continued to set firsts for the program's and was Cal Lutheran's first woman recipient of the West Region Track Athlete of the Year award and won the award twice (2013 & '15). She holds the SCIAC and CLU record in the 5,000 meters and holds the CLU record for the 800, 1,500, and 3,000 meters.

Trevathan played baseball and football at Cal Lutheran from 1962-66. Regarded as one of the best two-sport athletes in the first decade of Cal Lutheran athletics, Trevathan was a four-year starter in both baseball and football. He played running back, slotback and quarterback, leading the team in rushing in 1963 and was second in rushing in 1965, on the number one offense in the nation.  He played every inning of every game in his baseball career and was a two-time MVP. Bob anchored the left side of the infield at third base and shortstop and had a career batting average of over .300. 

Vaughan played for the Regals Soccer program from 2010-12. In just two years with Cal Lutheran, Vaughan was dominant for the Regals. She was a two-time All-American, two-time All-West Region, and two-time SCIAC Player of the Year. She is ranked second in the Cal Lutheran record book for assists, 12 which she set in 2011. She played an essential role in leading the Regals to new program highs in wins in each season (18 wins in 2010, 20 in '11). She helped the Regals to the most wins in a season in program history as the 2011 squad went 20-2-1. 

The 2021 ceremony was the 16th induction class since its inception. The Hall of Fame was established in 2003 to honor CLU's rich athletic distinguished history.
