Goals Galore as No. 4 Regals Host No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — No. 4 Cal Lutheran women's water polo had their work cut out for them as they hosted No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday afternoon. The teams combined for 30 goals as the Sagehens took down the Regals 17-13.

The loss drops the Regals to 8-13 overall and 4-3 in conference play. They are currently fourth place in the SCIAC standings.

Jacsen Donohue, Katie Knight, and Kemi Dijkstra each recorded a hat trick to lead the Regal attack. Bethany Metcalfe was next with two goals and Kaitlin Gardhouse and Tori Portillo added one each. Metcalfe dished out the most assists and drew the most ejections with three apiece.

On defense, Izzy De Souza was in the goal and made eight saves. She protected the cage and kept her squad in the game. Gardhouse led the defense with three steals.

Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to an early lead and were up 5-1 with 1:30 to go in the first quarter. The Sagehens carried that momentum to the second quarter and led 10-4 at the break. The teams scored four goals each in the third as the Regals trailed by six heading the fourth. Cal Lutheran kept the pressure on the Sagehens, outscoring them 5-3 in the fourth, ending the game on a high note. 

The Regals hit the road for their next contest. Cal Lutheran is at Chapman on Saturday at 11 a.m.
