Regals Face Cal State Fullerton, Villanova on Day One of Convergence Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's water polo continued the season at the Convergence Tournament and took on Cal State Fullerton and Villanova on day.

Against Cal State Fullerton, six different Regals scored and Kemi Dijkstra had the most with three. Dijkstra continued to lead the offense and tallied two assists.

Kaitlin Gardhouse and Katie Knight put the Regals in great offensive positions. Gardhouse drew five ejections and Knight was next with three. 

Izzy De Souza was in goal and made 11 saves. Dijkstra also made her mark on defense with three steals and Gardhouse and Bethany Metcalfe had two each.  

The game went to overtime and the Regals were outscored 2-1 as they came up just short in the game, 9-8. 

Versus Villanova, Gardhouse and Lauren Lohmeier had four goals each. Megan Findlay kept the ball moving with two assists and Gardhouse and Knight had three drawn ejections each. 

Six Regals recorded a steal versus the Wildcats and Tori Portillo led the way with two. De Souza continued the day in goal and recorded eight saves, one steal, and one assist. 

After a 3-3 first quarter, Villanova outscored the Regals 5-1 in the second. The Regals made a comeback in the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome as they fell 14-12. 

The Regals continue the tournament on Saturday with Augustana at 10:20 a.m. and Grove City at 1 p.m.
