Regals Win Conference Contest Against Caltech

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's water polo started strong, shutting out Caltech in the first quarter, and won the game 13-8 on Saturday afternoon. 

With the win, the Regals improved to 4-2 in conference play and are now 8-12 overall.

The offense came from all over the pool as Kemi Dijkstra and Katie Knight led the way with three goals each. Jacsen Donohue, Kaitlin Gardhouse, and Bethany Metcalfe had two goals each and Lauren Lohmeier added one. 

The Regals moved the ball around well as Gardhouse, Dijkstra, Metcalfe, and Megan Findley had two assists each. Lohmeier and Jacqui Brandon had one each. Gardhouse led the team with three drawn ejections. 

Izzy De Souza and Vianne Will split time in goal. De Souza made four saves and did not allow a goal, picking up the win. Will made five saves. Dijkstra had a team-high three steals. 

The Regals scored the first four goals of the game and had an early lead after the first quarter. After Caltech broke through to start the second quarter. The Regals responded and took a 7-1 lead at the break. The Regals coasted through the second half, getting many players in the game, and won the contest. 

The Regals continue the season on Wednesday. Cal Lutheran hosts Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
