Regals Shut Down Occidental, 8-3; Win Fifth Straight

LOS ANGELES — Cal Lutheran women's water polo shut down Occidental, 8-3, on Saturday afternoon. The Regals have now won five games in a row and improved to 2-0 in conference. 

Izzy De Souza and Vianne Will split time in goal. De Souza made five saves with two steals and Will had two saves with a steal.

The Regal defense was out in full force. Kemi Dijkstra led the way with four steals, Katie Knight was next with three, and Bethany Metcalfe added two.

Knight provided the offense with three goals. She was followed by Kaitlin Gardhouse with two and Dijkstra, Metcalfe, and Tori Portillo had one each. Gardhouse and Metcalfe dished out three assists each and Jacsen Donohue, Gardhouse and Metcalfe had two drawn ejections each. 

Cal Lutheran controlled the game from start to finish. The Regals outscored the Tigers 3-0 in the first quarter and had a 5-1 lead at the break. They added one more in the third and the team exchanged goals in the fourth. 

The Regals stay on the road as they try to push their win streak to six. Cal Lutheran is at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
