Regals Battle Westcliff, De Souza Notches 15 Saves

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — A furious rally came up just short as Cal Lutheran women's water polo fell to Westcliff 15-13 on Friday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Izzy De Souza kept Cal Lutheran in the game as she recorded 15 saves. The defense also made moves as Kemi Dijkstra, Katie Knight, Reyna Clark and Bethany Metcalfe had two steals each. 

Offensively, Knight scored four goals, Metcalfe recorded three and Clark had two. Kaitlin Gardhouse led the offense with six drawn ejections and Knight had four more. Metcalfe helped move the ball around and recorded four assists and Clark was next with three. 

The Warriors jumped on the Regals and had a 4-2 lead after the first quarter. Westcliff increased its lead to three at the half and was up 7-4. 

The Regals came out on fire in the second half and cut the lead to one, 7-6, one minute into play. Westcliff took over the rest of the quarter and had a 13-9 lead with eight minutes to play. The Regals answered the call, going on a 4-1 run to end the game, as their rally came up just short. 

The Regals remain at home for their next contest. Cal Lutheran will take on Toronto on Thursday at 4 p.m.
