Regals Suffer First SCIAC Loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's water polo suffered their first SCIAC loss as they were defeated by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 11-8 on Wednesday night.

With the loss, the Regals dropped to 6-10 overall and 2-1 in conference.

Six Regals scored as the offense came from all over the pool. Kaitlin Gardhouse and Katie Knight led the way with two each. 

Gardhouse turned in an all-around game as she added five drawn ejections, four steals and two assists. Jacsen Donohue matched her with two assists, and Kemi Dijkstra and Bethany Metcalfe had three steals each. Izzy De Souza was in goal and had a save percentage of .522 as she totaled 11 saves.

The Regals took an early lead and were up 4-1 halfway through the second quarter. The Athenas answered the call and scored six straight points. CMS held the Regals scoreless for over eight minutes and were up 7-4 halfway through the third. CMS kept the distance the rest of the way and won the game. 

The Regals continue their season on the road. Cal Lutheran is at La Verne on Saturday. They play the Leopards at 11 a.m. and St. Francis (Pa.) right after at 2 p.m.
