THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's basketball clinched a berth in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the Regals took down Whittier 60-40 on Wednesday night.

It was Senior Night, and before the game, Cal Lutheran honored Izzy Flores, Naomi Gipson and Ashley Sahnazoglu. The Regals improved to 14-9 overall and 8-7 in conference as they advanced to postseason play for the second straight year.

It was an all-around team performance as nine different Regals scored while the defense held the Poets to just 40 points. Cal Lutheran had the advantage for points in the paint with 34-14, seconds chance points 15-1 and bench points 29-17.

Sara Mills had 13 points and hit three three-pointers. Janna Holley was right behind her with 12 points and dished out four assists. Aliya DiMuro had eight points and 12 rebounds, Sahnazoglu had seven points, Gipson had four points and nine rebounds and Flores had two rebounds.

It was a fast paced game with only 13 fouls called. However, shots were not falling early as neither team could grab a leas. The Regals led 13-9 after the first quarter and 26-22 at the half. Sahnazoglu got the scoring started with the first four points of the game.

The Regals came out on first in the second held and outscored the Poets 14-2 in the third quarter. Cal Lutheran carried that momentum into the fourth and pushed their lead to the largest of the game at 28. The Regals coasted the rest of the way and picked up the win.

The season finale is on the road. Cal Lutheran is at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 7 p.m.
