Five Regals Score Double-Digits, Take Down Chapman 82-76

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's basketball had an all-around performance, with five Regals scoring double-digits, as they defeated Chapman 82-76 on Saturday night. 

This win brings their overall record to 13-9 and conference record to 7-7. The Regals are in the fourth spot for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. A win in one of their two final games would seal their spot. 

The Regals scored 40 points in the paint and had 25 assists. Naomi Gipson led the charge and recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. She was followed by Janna Holley with 17 points, eight assists and three steals. Annie Winton had 13 points, Karina McMillan added 11 and Aliya DiMuro had 10. 

Cal Lutheran opened the first quarter with a layup by Holley. The Regals carried their lead to 4-0, but the Chapman Panthers quickly tied the game at 5-5. Both teams then found themselves in a deadlock for just over two minutes long, before the Panthers found an opening in the Regal's defense and took the lead 7-5. The Panthers tried pulling ahead further, but the Regals managed to tie the game once more, 11-11. The Regals took control the rest of the quarter and were up 17-13 after one. Quarter.

The Panthers returned with a vengeance as they opened the second quarter, 15-17. The Regals returned with a shot of their own, as both teams traded shots with Cal Lutheran holding the lead at 25-21. The Panthers finally found their momentum as they took the lead, 27-25, but the Regals didn't let them hold it for long as they tied it at 29-29. The Regals then pulled ahead and were up 45-36 at the half.

The Chapman Panthers came back determined in the third, but the Regals remained unbothered as they were able to continue their momentum going up 53-41. The Regals dominated the court in the third quarter and went up 64-49. 

The Panthers refused to fold in the fourth quarter. The Regals kept their lead, 70-53, Chapman finally began to build up their momentum as they slowly closed the distance. The Panthers really found their rhythm and cut the Regalss lead to 78-74. Chapman's final push wasn't enough as the Regals won the game. 

The Regals' next game will be in Gilbert Arena against Whittier on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
