Regals Force Linfield Into 30 Turnovers, Defeat Northwest Conference Opponent 59-50

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's basketball forced Linfield into 30 turnovers, defeating their Northwest Conference opponent 59-50 on Saturday afternoon.

The Regals scored 36 points off turnovers, 23 of which were steals. Cal Lutheran outscored the Tigers 21-7 in the third, got back to their winning ways, and improved to 4-1 on the season.

Sara Mills led the way with 20 points and had a game-high seven steals. Janna Holley was next with 14 points and added six steals and six assists. Aliya DiMuro added nine points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Naomi Gipson was second on the team with five rebounds and added three steals and Grace Godines dished out three assists.

Cal Lutheran shot 38.9-percent from the field and 30.8 from three-point range. The Regals had 15 turnovers to Linfield's 30. Cal Lutheran had 28 points in the paint and held the lead for just under 30 minutes.

The game went back-and-forth and Linfield took an 18-14 lead after the first quarter. Cal Lutheran bounced back in the second and it was a one-point game at the half.

The third quarter was where the Regals made their move. The run started with a three-pointer by Mills. Gipson then added three straight buckets to push Cal Lutheran's lead to 38-32. DiMuro scored points in the quarter, Karina McMillan made back-to-back shots, and Mills added free throws. Mills also ended the quarter with a two-point jumper as the Regals went up 50-37 with one quarter left. Cal Lutheran used that momentum and coasted to victory.

The Regals are back at it tomorrow, remaining on the road. Cal Lutheran will take on UC Santa Cruz on Sunday at 2 p.m.
