Kingsmen's Win Advances Them To The SCIAC Tournament

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Kingsmen soccer hosted the Whittier Poets on their Senior Day in William Rolland Stadium. The game ended in a 2-1 victory for the Purple and Gold.

The Kingsmen honored 10 seniors today before the game.

The Purple and Gold opened up the scoring in the 13th minute with a goal from Matt Myers. Cameron Korshavn found himself on the end line after beating the Poet's defenders. Myers got open on the top of the box and Korshavn found his right foot. Myers was able to push it past the keeper to put them up 1-0.

The Kingsmen outshot the Poets 7-3 in the first 45. Ivan Lumbrano held it down on the goal line and collected one save.

That finished off the scoring in the first half. Igor Lumbrano, Juan Valencia, Cesar Sagastume, Alejandro Rodriguez, JP Melgoza, and Myers were the shot takers in the first half.

The Poets tied it up early in the second half but that didn't stop the Purple and Gold's relentless offense. In the 71st minute, Melgoza capitalized on a free kick right outside the box to put the Kingsmen up 2-1.

Owen Ebner was in the goal box in the second half and picked up three saves to keep the Poets from getting the go ahead.

The Kingsmen outshot the Poets again in the second half 12-6.

The Purple and Gold advance to the SCIAC tournament and play in the semi-final on Wednesday. Location and opponent is TBA.
