Kingsmen Just Miss The Upset Against CMS

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Kingsmen hosted the number one team in conference, Claremont McKenna, Saturday night in William Rolland Stadium.

It was a close first half between the Stags and the Kingsmen with strong offensive efforts on both sides.

Cameron Korshavn saved the Kingsmen with 15 minutes left in the first half. CMS had a break away and were heading straight for the goal but Korshavn was able to slide and take the ball of the foot of the Stags forward.

Goal keeper Ivan Lumbrano tallied one save in the first 45 and they headed into halftime with a score of 0-0.

The Stags took the lead 1-0 after a strong defensive effort from the Kingsmen. Lumbrano got a hand on the ball but it still trickled in.

Despite going down a goal, the purple and gold were still playing as though they were tied and weren't ready to accept defeat.

Forward Michael Bogart found himself in the box and was ready to take a shot before he drew a foul, causing a PK. Justin Magana stepped up to take the kick and placed the ball well in the bottom right corner. It looked like it was going in but the Stags keeper got to it at the last second.

The Kingsmen were down 3-0 but still had a hefty offensive presence. The purple and gold sent a cross in from the right side that flew over the Stags defense. Bogart found himself with time and space and hit a right footed volley off the far side post into the back of the net.

JP Melgoza had another chance on goal that looked like it was going in. He ripped a shot from five yards outside the box into the top right corner. Just as the Kingsmen started to cheer the Stags keeper got a hand on it to push it off target.

The Kingsmen tallied 10 shots total in the second half but were only able to connect one time.

It was a hard-fought battle throughout the 90 minutes with four goals total in the second half but ultimately the Kingsmen were outscored 3-1.

They travel to Occidental on Wednesday.
