Physical 90-minute Battle In William Rolland Stadium; Kingsmen Fall 0-1

Thousand Oaks, Calif. – Kingsmen soccer played an NAIA opponent for their homecoming game. The game ended with Bethesda University on top 1-0.

The Purple and Gold saw a lot of new faces on the field this afternoon.

It was a tight first half between the Kingsmen and the Flames. The Kingsmen were only able to produce two shots in the first half and they went into halftime scoreless.

Goalkeeper Owen Ebner established his dominance early on and hit a bouncing ball over the crossbar to mark his first save of the game.

Juan Valencia and Preston Fleming were the shot takers in the first 45.

The second half started just as tense as the first. It was 11 minutes in to the second half when the Kingsmen went down 0-1. It was a physical battle between the two teams and one of the Kingsmen defenders was ejected with a red card. The game ended with a total of 30 fouls between the two teams.

The Purple and Gold had multiple good chances on goal throughout the second half but the constant stoppage time from all the fouls made it hard for them to fully get into rhythm.

The Kingsmen had all the offensive momentum in the last 30 minutes and outshot the Flames 9-1 in the second half. Between volleys, headers, and regular shots on goal, the Purple and Gold just couldn't find the net.

Nine total Kingsmen were involved in the offensive shooting efforts.

They travel to Chapman on Wednesday for a 4 pm kick off.
