THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. Regan Laubscher hit a walk-off single lead to lead Cal Lutheran softball to their third-straight series win on Saturday afternoon. The walk-off came in the first game of the doubleheader as the Regals won 6-5. The Regals took the second game, 2-1, and swept the Poets on Senior Day.

The Regals won their third straight series to close out the year. They finished with five straight wins and won seven of their last nine. Before the game, the Regals honored Genevieve Avalos, Madison Gunn, Natalie Luna, Makayla Lopez, and Ariana Mendoza.

Game One
In the top of the second, with runners on first and second, the Poets hit a ball into left center. Nadia Collins played it perfectly and got the ball in quickly. Olivia Vargas was the relay and made the throw to catcher Ally Macapagal to save a run.

The Poets broke through first, scoring one run in the top of the third. The Regals fired back in the bottom of the inning. Laubscher started with a double to right center. With Laubscher on third, Collins bunted and made it to first. She stole second and the Regals were in business. Lopez brought them both home and the Regals had their first lead. Vargas kept the runs coming and made it 3-1 after a single brought in Lopez. Cal Lutheran added two more runs off an error and had a 5-1 lead after three innings.

Brooke DeSmet was on the mound and went 4.1 innings. The Poets chased her away in the fifth as they tied the game. She gave up six hits and three earned runs. Whittier got two earned runs and then two runs off an error and the game was tied at 5-5.

The game went quiet for a few innings before a final ruin in the seventh. Gunn relieved DeSmet in the circle. Gunn got her first win of the season as she went 2.2 innings. She only allowed two hits. The seventh-inning walk-off started with a single by Mendoza. With two outs, Gunn walked and Macapagal singled to load the bases. Laubscher got the walk-off for the Regals as she singled in the winning run. Cal Lutheran won the game 6-5 and took the series.

Game Two
The second game started with all defense and pitching. Whittier took the first lead as they scored one run in the third. Casey Edwards was on the mound and helped herself out at the plate. In the fourth, with runners on first and second, she hit a 2-RBI double to give her team the lead.

Edwards continued her impressive freshman campaign with another superb outing in the circle. She went all 7.0 innings and finished off her 18th complete game. She picked up her seventh win as she allowed just three hits and one earned run.

The two runs were all that was needed as the Regals finished the season with a win. They swept the Poets and improved to 7-14 in conference and 14-20 overall.
