THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Makayla Lopez hit a 3-run homer to lead Cal Lutheran softball past Manhattanville in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Regals won the game two 14-10, but the Valiants took game one 5-1.

In game two, the runs came early and often, for both teams. The Regals got on the board first with two runs in the first inning. Manhattanville fired back with five runs in the top of the second. After the Regals got two runs in the bottom of the second, the Valiants scored two in the third and one in the fourth to take a 8-4 lead halfway through the game.

The Regals got back in the game as they scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to two errors from the Valiants.

Cal Lutheran then took the lead as Ariana Mendoza delivered a 2-RBI double to left field. As the game continued to go back-and-forth, it did so again, and Manhattanville hit a two-run home run and had a 10-9 lead in the sixth. The Regals were right there for answer. With the score tied, Lopez smashed a shot over the left field fence, giving her squad a 13-10 lead.

The Regals added one more and took a 14-10 lead to the seventh. Paige Henry got the win as she pitched the final 4.0 innings. She gave up just two hits and three earned runs.

Lopez and Mendoza both had four RBI in the game. Natalie Luna was all over the bases with four runs and Lopez and Genevieve Avalos scored three times each.

Olivia Vargas hit her first homerun of the season in game one. It was the lone point for the Regals as runs were hard to come by.

Pitcher Casey Edwards kept her team in the game and went the distance. In 7.0 innings, she allowed just five hits and three earned runs. She had a no-hitter through five innings.

Manhattanville got on the board first, in the first inning. Cal Lutheran answered with Vargas' home run in the third. The game went quickly as both pitchers were throwing their best stuff. The Valiants broke through at the end scoring two runs in the sixth and seventh innings and stole the game. Lopez and Luna both recorded a hit.

The Regals continue the season with their first game on the road. Cal Lutheran is at La Sierra on Tuesday at 2:00 pm.
