Regals’ Comeback Falls Just Short Versus La Sierra

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran softball scored three runs in the top of the sixth, but a comeback bid fell just short as the Regals lost to La Sierra 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

Genevieve Avalos recorded 2 RBI off one swing of the bat. Her single got the Regals on the board. Natalie Luna reached first, and recorded a RBI, for the third run, as Cal Lutheran didn't back down from La Sierra.

The Regals threw three different pitchers as Paige Henry, Brooke DeSmet, and Casey Edwards all saw action. The trio pitched 2.0 innings each.

Henry started the game and gave up two and three runs. Only two of the three runs were earned. DeSmet was next and gave up one hit and one earned run. Edwards closed out the game with two hits and one earned run.

La Sierra took the early lead as they scored three runs in the bottom of the second. They added one more in the fourth before the Regals broke through in the sixth. La Sierra scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win.

The Regals return home for a doubleheader on Thursday. Cal Lutheran hosts Wittenberg with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
