LA VERNE, Calif. Casey Edwards was lethal in the circle, and at the plate, as she hit a home run and pitched a complete game against La Verne on Friday afternoon. The Leopards snuck by the Regals with a 3-2 win.

Edwards continued to impress in her freshman campaign, showing off her hitting skills, to go along with her pitching skills. She threw 6.0  innings, giving up just five hits and two earned runs. She struck out five leopards, with just one walk.

The Regals struck first in the top of the first. Olivia Vargas doubled down the left field line, scoring Makayla Lopez. The Leopards were quick to answer in the bottom of the inning.

Edwards helped herself in the top of the second. Her home run put her squad up 2-1. La Verne broke through again, tying the game in the fourth, and then took the lead in the fifth.

The Regals had one last chance in the seventh. Emily Blank was hit by pitch, getting on base with just one out. Ashley Membrere came on to pinch run. Edwards was up to bat and hit a ball out to left field, but it was caught. The next play was a fielder's choice and the game was over.

It was the first game of a three-game series. The teams will continue the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at Cal Lutheran. First pitch is set for 12 pm.
