THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran Softball fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps twice on Saturday as the Athenas claimed the series. The Athenas took the first game 8-0 and the second game 6-3.

Brooke DeSmet started game one on the mound and pitched for two innings. She allowed just two hits and three runs, but took her first loss of the season.

The Regals found themselves in a deadlock early on and were tied with the Athenas 0-0 after one inning. Cal Lutheran tried holding strong, but the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps managed to score three runs at the top of the second inning.

Paige Henry took over for DeSmet as she pitched for the following three innings. She allowed seven hits and five runs with one strikeout.

The Athenas managed to score five more runs at the top of the fourth inning. The Regals tried to make a comeback with hits of their own, but were held scoreless, as the Athenas took the first game.

Casey Edwards was on the mound for the second game. She pitched a complete game, going seven innings. She had three strikeouts, but allowed 11 hits and six runs.

The Athenas had an early lead again as they scored three runs at the top of the second inning. They were able to continue their momentum at the top of the third inning, scoring two more times. The Regals landed a few hits of their own, but weren't able to make any runs in the early innings.

After CMS increased their lead by one in the top of the fifth, the Regals had an answer. In the bottom of the sixth, Cal Lutheran put up three runs on the scoreboard. Ariana Mendoza hit an infield fly with Makayla Lopez scoring. Regan Laubscher added two more runs with a 2-RBI single. It was as close as Cal Lutheran would get as CMS took the game.

The Regals next game will be home against Chapman on Friday, March 31, at 3 p.m.
