WHITTIER, Calif. — Olivia Vargas hit a grand slam and Cal Lutheran softball made quick work of Whittier with a score of 9-0 in five innings on Friday afternoon.
The Regals got a complete game from Casey Edwards, and put up 14 hits, as the offense and defense was on a roll. They have won their past two series and look to make it three straight to end the year.
Edwards went 5.0 innings as the offense put the Poets away early. She gave up just two hits and one walk, while striking out one.
The Regals got on the board early as Emily Blank hit a 2-RBI double in the top of the first. The game moved along quickly as both pitchers and defenses made their mark on the game.
Cal Lutheran broke through with one run in the fourth and six in the fifth. Olivia Vargas singled in the fourth to make it 3-0. In the fifth, Brooke DeSmet and Makayla Lopez both added one RBI and Vargas capped off the inning with her grand slam.
Six different Regals had a hit. Vargas, Blank, and DeSmet had three each and Lopez added two more. Vargas recorded five RBI and Blank had two more.
The Regals are going for three straight series wins on Saturday. Cal Lutheran hosts Whittier for a Senior Day doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
