THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran softball got a complete game from Brooke DeSmet as the Regals split their doubleheader with Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon. Cal Lutheran won the first game 2-1, but fell 4-1 in game two.

The day started out with one out on one pitch. DeSmet pitched the entirety of game one, only allowing Lewis and Clark to slip in a run during the top of the sixth. DeSmet faced 29 batters, only giving up five hits and five walks.

Both of the Regals' runs came in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back line drives down the left field line. Ally Macapagal opened up the scoring with a triple that sent Olivia Vargas across home plate. To put the second tally on the scoreboard, Mia Antonino delivered a double, scoring Macapagal. The Violet and Gold held on to the win with their defense.

The second game got away from the Regals early in the top of the first when the Pioneers put up two runs. Freshman Casey Edwards stepped into the pitching circle for game two and faced 33 batters. She gave up 10 hits, but just four earned runs and one walk.

The Regals tried to bounce back in the bottom of the sixth when Abby Lockman recorded a RBI with a double to right center. Makayla Lopez was the only Regal to cross home plate in game two.

The Regals return to Hutton Field on March 5th against Manhattanville for a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
