THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Casey Edwards pitched a complete game for Cal Lutheran softball, but the Chapman Panthers escaped with a 2-1 win on Friday afternoon.

It was game one of the series, as Edwards recorded her eighth complete game.. The loss brings the Regals' overall record to 7-10 and makes them 0-4 in conference.

Edwards took to the mound and impressed, pitching all seven innings, while facing 31 batters. She allowed eight hits and two runs, striking out two.

The Panthers were the first to score, going up 2-0, as they got on the board in the top of the second inning. The Regals fought hard as Edwards, Genevieve Avalos, Ariana Mendoza, and Mia Antonino all managed to get a hit.

The Regals defense saw great plays all over the diamond, from the infield to the outfield. Cal Lutheran turned a 2-5-1-3 double play to end a threat in the second. In the fourth, with runners on second and third, Ashley Membrere made the play in centerfield. Ally Macapagal caught a runner stealing to end the sixth and Brooke DeSmet made a diving grab to finish off the seventh.

The Regals broke through in the fourth as a hit by Antonino pushed Edwards over to third. The play continued with an error from the Panthers and the Regals scored their point.

Cal Lutheran kept the Panthers from scoring the rest of the way, but were unable to score anymore as Chapman walked away with the win.

The Regals continue the series against Chapman on Saturday. The doubleheader is at Chapman and starts at 12 p.m.
