Regals Drop Doubleheader to Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran softball dropped a doubleheader to the Redlands Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won the first game, 4-0, and the second, 9-6.

Game One
The Bulldogs shutdown the Regals in game one and took the series. Cal Lutheran could only muster four hits as Brooke DeSmet, Paige Henry, Emily Blank, and Hannah Mosesian all had one.

DeSmet started the game on the mound. She went 4.1 innings and gave up just four hits and three earned runs. She struck out three Bulldogs, but gave up four walks. Henry came in for the next 1.2 innings. She controlled the Bulldogs with one hit and a walk.

It was a clean game, with both pitching staffs and defenses taking care of business. The lone hiccup for the Regals was the fifth inning as the Bulldogs scored four runs. It was enough to win the game and clinch the series.

Game Two
Casey Edwards got the start and pitched the whole game. She went 6.0 innings and only gave up three earned runs. Due to errors, the Bulldogs scored nine runs in total.

Nadia Montiel had two RBI and Olivia Vargas, Ariana Mendoza, and Edwards had one each.

The Regals took an early lead and scored four runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs slowly chipped away and scored one run in the second and four in the fourth. The Regals scored two in the fifth to take the lead back, but the Bulldogs answered with four more runs in the bottom and held on for the win.

Up next, the Regals take on Occidental in a three-game series. It starts at home on Friday with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
