THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran softball defeated North Central College by the mercy rule, 12-4, in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. North Central won the first game 2-0.

Pitcher Brooke DeSmet moved to 4-0 on the season as she pitched all 5.0 innings against the Cardinals in game two. She struck out four, while allowing eight hits and three earned runs.

MaKayla Lopez, Regan Laubscher, and Olivia Vargas recorded two RBI each and Natalie Luna, DeSMet, Mia Antonino, Nadia Collins, and Genevieve Avalos all added one.

The game featured a 10-run third inning as the Regals turned a tie game into a rout. The Regals scored so much, that the 10 points would not fit on the scoreboard for the third inning.

With the series split, the Regals improved to 7-6 on the season.

Casey Edwards was in the circle for the first game and went the distance. In 7.0 innings, she gave up nine hits and two earned runs, while striking out three.

Antonini led the Cal Lutheran bats with two hits. Lopez, Abby Lockmann, Ally Macapagal and Ashley Membrere each had one. However, the Regals were held scoreless.

North Central did not need that much run support and scored both of their runs in the third inning. It was all what was needed as the Cardinals took game one.

The Regals have ten days off before getting back into action. Cal Lutheran hists Williams on Wednesday, March 22, with the doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
