Mendoza Homers in Extras of Game Three; Regals Take Series from Occidental

LOS ANGELES Ariana Mendoza hit a home run in the top of the eighth inning of game two as Cal Lutheran softball defeated Occidental 4-3 to take the series on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers won the first game 4-0. 

Game Two
Brooke DeSmet opened the game in the circle and pitched for 4.0 innings. She faced 20 batters, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. The Tigers were first on the board as they scored in the bottom of the second inning, taking an early lead of 3-0.

The Regals quickly fired back with a single by Emily Blank, bringing Nadia Collins home in the top of the third. 

Casey Edwards took over in the circle, pitching four innings. She faced 17 batters, giving up just three hits. She got one strikeout and prevented the Tigers from scoring.

The Regals continued their momentum in the top of the fifth. Blank was hit by a pitch, bringing home DeSmet. Olivia Vargas tied the game at 3-3 as a sacrifice fly brought home Makayla Lopez. A home run from Mendoza in the eighth inning solidified the win for the Regals.

Game One
Paige Henry started on the mound and pitched for 3.0 innings. She allowed five hits and three earned  runs. The Regals struggled to get on the board while the Tigers scored a point in each of the first three innings. 

Edwards took over the mound next as she pitched for the next three innings. She faced 13 batters, giving up just five hits and one earned run. She also had one strike out. The Regals managed to hold Occidental to the four runs, but were unable to score as the Tigers took the game. 

The Regals next game will be at La Verne on Friday at 3 p.m.
