Regals Hold Fifth Straight Opponent Under Five Points; Shut Down Bulldogs

REDLANDS, Calif. — California Lutheran University women's water polo held its fifth straight opponent under five points as the Regals shut down the University of Redlands 9-4 on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Regals' defense has put on a clinic over the past five games. They have geld La Verne and Virginia Military Institute to five, Occidental to three and Redlands now Redlands to four. 

Goalkeeper Izzy De Souza and the Cal Lutheran defense were a brick wall against the Bulldogs. De Souza made seven saves in three quarters and Vianne Will came in for the fourth and made three. 

Jessica Diaz made herself big in the water as she tallied four field blocks. Her teammates made the steals as Kemi Dijkstra tallied three and Jacsen Donohue and Bethany Metcalfe both had two. 

Lexi Rond continued to lead the offense and recorded four goals and three drawn ejections. Dijkstra and Metcalfe both added two and Katherine Knight and Rachel Ray both had one. Kaitlin Gardhouse led the team in steals with two. Dijkstra had three drawn ejection and Gardhouse added two more. 

The Regals scored three goals in the first quarter and four in the second for a 7-3 lead at the half. Cal Lutheran shut out Redlands in the third and scored two more goals to take a commanding lead. The Regals coasted the rest of the game and continued their momentum. 

Cal Lutheran looks to make six straight wins and host Caltech on Saturday at 11 a.m.
