Regals Win 4th Straight, Defeat Occidental 14-3

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University women's water polo hosted the Tigers of Occidental College on Sunday. The Regals improved to 3-1 in SCIAC play with their 14-3 victory.

Cal Lutheran struck first when sophomore Jacsen Donohue beat the Occidental keeper with a top corner shot. With that lead in hand, the Regals were able to work the ball into the middle for senior Lexi Rond who netted two early goals. The Tigers were able to slow Cal Lutheran down with a number of defensive stand and a goal of their own to end the quarter with the Regals up 3-1.

The Regals extended their lead in the second quarter as Lexi Rond scored 3 more goals and senior Kemi Dijkstra scored 2 goals of her own. The Tigers were able to score 2, but the first half ended with the Regals firmly in control at 8-3.

The third quarter saw Regals Keeper Izzy De Souza shut out the Tigers to put emphasis on her 7 save day. Cal Lutheran totaled 3 goals in the quarter with Bethany Metcalfe and Tamara Verdiell each getting their first of the day and Kemi Dijkstra adding her second.

With an 11-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter, Cal Lutheran sent in Vianne Will to take over in the goal. She would notch two saves and continue holding Occidental to a scoreless second half. Bethany Metcalfe scored her second goal of the day and Katherine Knight was able to beat the Tiger netminder twice to give the Regals a final tally of 14 goals to the Tiger's 3.

The Regals will be back in the pool to host the Redlands Bulldogs on Wednesday at 4:00pm.
