Regals Go 2-0, Take down Chapman and Virginia Military Institute

ORANGE, Calif. — California Lutheran University women's water polo went 2-0 on the day as the Regals defeated conference opponent Chapman 14-8 and Virginia Military Institute 9-5 on Saturday afternoon.

The Regals improved to 7-6 on the year and 2-1 overall. They have won two straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) games. 

Lexi Rond led the Purple against the Panthers with five goals while Jacsen Donohue and Bethany Metcalfe both added a hat trick. 

The offense was seen all over the pool. The Regals moved the ball well as Donohue dished out three assists and Kaitlin Gardhouse and Metcalfe added two each. Rond put her team in good positions with five drawn ejections and Gardhouse tallied three more. 

Izzy De Souza was in goal and was a wall with 18 saves. The defense continued  to control the game, for the second contest in a row, as Jessica Diaz snagged five steals and De Souza had four more. Gardhouse and Kemi Dijkstra both added three more thefts. 

Cal Lutheran built up a lead fast and controlled the game the rest of the way. The Regals outscored the Panthers 7-1 en route to their victory. 

The Regals made it three straight wins as they took down Virginia Military Institute. Rond continued her high-scoring day and notched four goals. She was followed by Metcalfe and Dijkstra with two each. 

De Souza and Vianne Will split time in goal. De Souza made 10 saves and Will added four more.

Cal Lutheran's defense continued to control games. Gardhouse recorded three steals and five more Regals had at least one. 

The Regals look to continue their winning streak on Sunday as they host La Verne at 11 a.m.
