Regals Open Season at D2 Concordia Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. — California Lutheran University women's water polo impressed in their season opener as the Regals went on the road against Division II Concordia University Irvine. The Regals kept it close, but eventually fell 12-10 on Friday afternoon.

Kemi Dijkstra and Lexi Rond led the way with four goals apiece and Kaitlin Gardhouse added two more. Dijkstra and Rond both had an assist and Jessica Diaz led the team with two steals.

The Regals found themselves in an early hole and were down 4-2 at the end of the first. The Eagles turned up the heat in the second, holding the Regals scoreless, and took a 9-2 lead at the half.

It was Cal Lutheran's turn in the second half. The Regals outscored the Regals 4-2 in both the third and fourth quarters. Cal Lutheran's comeback came up just short as the D-II team took the game.

The Regals have a few weeks off before jumping back in the pool. Cal Lutheran will be at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for a conference game on Feb. 23.
