Rond Named SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Year, First Team; De Souza, Dijkstra Earn Second Team

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Lexi Rond was the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Offensive Athlete of the Year and a First Team honoree while teammates Izzy De Souza and Kemi Dijkstra made an appearance on the Second Team to represent California Lutheran University women's water polo for the all-conference awards.

The 2022 All-SCIAC Women's Water Polo teams were announced Friday morning following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

Rond (Ventura, Calif.) was named the SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Year for the second straight season. She is the first Regal to garner the award twice. Rond, who was also named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year and First Team in 2019, helped the Regals secure a SCIAC Postseason Tournament bid as the fourth seed. She was also All-SCIAC in 2021. Rond led the offensive efforts for Cal Lutheran which posted a 9-5 record in conference action, highlighted by a 40-goal output in addition to securing 41 drawn exclusions. She added 12 steals and six assists.

De Souza (Irvine, Calif.) added her second All-SCIAC honor and landed on the Second Team. She was All-SCIAC in 2021. De Souza was in the cage for the Regals. In 12 conference games played, the goalkeeper made 127 saves and allowed just 81 goals against. She played 350 minutes with a 7.41 goals-against-average with a save percentage of .611. She added 13 steals and eight assists.

Dijkstra (Breda, Netherlands) earned her first All-SCIAC honor and garnered Second Team recognition. In the 14 conference games, She tied for second on the team with 25 goals with a shotting percentage of .455. She was also second on the team with 17 steals and third with 16 drawn ejections. She added 11 assists and three field blocks.

The Regals continue the season with the SCIAC Tournament. Cal Lutheran is at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 11 a.m.
