Kingsmen Advance to National Championship; Defeat MIT

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Kingsmen advance to the national championship! Cal Lutheran men's water polo defeated MIT 17-7 in the semifinals of the Division III Collegiate Water Polo National Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The tournament is hosted by USA Water Polo. With the win, the Kingsmen play for a national championship on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. It is a first in program history.

Dillon Goldsmith and Adam Dow scored four goals each and Ben Brown and Luke Matthies both had three. David Brandt, Justin Boals, Brody Swarm and Bryan Lynch all added one.

Brown kept the ball moving with four assists and Taylor Garcia was next with three. Goldsmith and Mattheis had two drawn ejections each. 

Bo DuBois was in goal and got the won. He made nine saves and added two assists and one steal. Dow had a team high five steals and Brown had four more.

The game remained close early on and was tied 2-2 after the first quarter. The Kingsmen picked it up in the second quarter, outscoring the Engineers 6-0, and had an 8-2 lead at the half. Cal Lutheran kept the offense coming in the third, outscoring MIT 6-2, and took a commanding 14-4 lead. The Kingsmen wrapped up the game and will play for their first national championship on Sunday.
