Kingsmen Defeat McKendree, Fall to Loyola Marymount on Day Two of Gary Troyer Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's water polo wrapped up the Gary Troyer Tournament with a win against McKendrre 15-7, but fell to Loyola Marymount 22-15 on Saturday. With a split on the day, the Kingsmen are now 6-9 on the year.

Against McKendree, Dillon Goldsmith recorded five goals and four steals to lead the team. Taylor Garcia, Ben Brown and Johnny Wotawa each added two goals as Brown and Tommy Riffle both had two assists. Adam Dow gave his team a few powerplay opportunities with three drawn ejections. 

Bo DuBois was in goal and got the win. He made seven saves while adding three each of assists and steals. The defense held strong, and after Goldsmith's four steals, Justin Boals and Brown added three each.

The Kigsmen were off to a hot start and outscored their opponent 5-1 in the first and 3-2 in the second. The 8-3 lead at the break allowed them to cruise through the second half. 

Versus Loyola Marymount, Goldsmith continued his tear and recorded four goals, three assists, three drawn ejections, and two steals. Brown added three goals, three assists and two steals and Luke Matthies had three goals. Bo Dubois continued the day in goal and made five saves. 

The game was close after the first quarter as Loyola Marymount was 5-4. LMU opened their lead in the second and took a 10-6 lead at the break. They continued to increase their lead through the second half and swam away with the win. 

After the four non-conference games, the Kingsmen jump back into conference play. Cal Lutheran host Redlands on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
