Kingsmen Send Redlands Home with First SCIAC Loss

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's water polo sent the Redlands Bulldogs home with their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) loss of the season by a score of 9-7 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kingsmen improved to 2-1 in conference and 6-9 overall while dropping Redlands to 2-1 and 9-7.

It was a defensive showing to start the game as the Kingsmen led 2-1 after the first quarter. After the teams exchanged goals to start the second, Cal Lutheran scored four straight from the 3:30 in the quarter to 4:47 in the third. 

Redlands fought back cutting the lead to two, as the Kingsmen held an 8-6 advantage with 5:31 remaining. Each team scored once more as Cal Lutheran earned a big win.

David Brandt and Ben Brown led the way with two goals each. Brown and Taylor Garcia dished out two assists each and Dillon Goldsmith drew three ejections.

Bo DuBois was in goal and combined with the defense for the win. DuBois had eight saves and three steals and Brown added two steals.

The Kingsmen are back on the road this weekend. Cal Lutheran is at the Cal Baptist Invitational on Saturday and take on Santa Clara at 1 p.m. and California Baptist 5 p.m.
