LOS ANGELES — Cal Lutheran men's water polo shutout Occidental, 5-0, in the third quarter and handed the Tigers their first loss in SCIAC play, 13-11, on Wednesday night. 

Down 8-6 at the half, the Cal Lutheran offense and defense exploded, as the Kingsmen took all momentum from the Tigers. Cal Lutheran improved to 4-2 in conference and 9-12 overall while dropping the Tigers to 4-1 in conference and 8-11. 

Oxy got off to a hot start and took a 4-1 lead after the first quarter. Cal Lutheran cut into the lead a little bit, but the Tigers still had the two-point advantage at the half. 

Cal Lutheran goalkeeper, Bo DuBois, and the Kingsmen defense, turned it on in the third and recorded the shutout in the frame.

The Kingsmen opened the flood gates as Dillon Goldsmith scored the first goal. Taylor Garcia tied the game a few minutes later and Goldsmith gave Cal Lutheran the lead after a five-meter attempt. David Brandt and Goldsmith made it five goals in the quarter as the Kingsmen shocked the Tigers.

The teams exchanged goals in the fourth as Cal Lutheran held at least a two-goal advantage for the entirety of the quarter. The Kingsmen picked up a big win as they handed Occidental its first SCIAC loss. 

DuBois and the Kingsmen defense shut down the Tigers in the second half. DuBois recorded eight saves and two steals in the game. Eight Kingsmen tallied a steal with Luke Matthies leading the way with three.

Goldsmith led the offense with four goals, Matthies added three more and Brandt and Taylor Garcia each had two. Garcia and Ben Brown did out two assists each and Garcia added three drawn ejections.

The Kingsmen were set for two games this Saturday, but the game at Caltech has been cancelled. The lone game on Saturday is at home as Cal Lutheran host Westcliff at 4 p.m.
