Kingsmen Win SCIAC Tournament Championship; First in Program History

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Championship feeling for Cal Lutheran men's water polo! The Kingsmen took down Redlands 8-5 on Sunday afternoon and are the 2022 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament Champion!

With the win, Cal Lutheran will now host the USA Men's Water Polo Collegiate Division III National Championship, set to take place on December 3-4. 

It was the lowest points the Kingsmen allowed all season as they held the Bulldogs to just five goals. Cal Lutheran shutout Redlands in the second quarter and allowed only one goal in the fourth quarter. 

Dillon Goldsmith was named the SCIAC Tournament MVP. In the championship game, he tallied one goal, one assist, one drawn ejection and three steals. 

Luke Matthies led the way for the Kingsmen with four goals. Ben Brown was next with three goals and he dished out two assists. 

Bo DuBois was in the cage and got the much-deserved win. He had a save percentage of .643 as he made nine saves with one assist and one steal. 

Defense was the name of the game as both the Kingsmen and Bulldogs put each other to the test. Cal Lutheran scored the first goal of the game and had a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.

Cal Lutheran controlled the second quarter, outscoring Redlands 1-0 in the second, and took a 4-2 lead at the half. Redlands then controlled the third and the game was tied 4-4 after three quarter of play.  

The Kingsmen scored four goals in the fourth quarter as they took over the game and won their first SCIAC Tournament Championship.

The USA Men's Water Polo Collegiate Division III National Championship is next with a schedule and times being announced soon.
