Kingsmen Take on Division I Opponents Santa Clara and Cal Baptist

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's water polo took on tough competition and played Division I opponents Santa Clara and California Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The Kingsmen fell to Santa Clara 17-11 and Cal Baptist 23-8.

Against Santa Clara, Ben Brown led the way with four goals. Cole Weiderman and Tommy Riffle were next with two each. Dillon Goldsmith dished out three assists and Taylor Garcia and Weiderman had three drawn ejections each.

On defense, Bo DuBois was in goal and made three saves with four steals. Garcia and Goldsmith both added two steals. 

The games was close for the majority of the time. Santa Clara led 3-2 after the first, 8-6 at the half and 12-9 at the end of the third. The Kingsmen were outscored 5-2 in the fourth and fell 17-11.

Versus Cal Baptist, eight different Kingsmen scored a goal. Three Kingsmen had an assist and Johnny Wotawa had three drawn ejections. Cal Lutheran had 12 steals in the game with Wotawa, Brown and Bryan Lynch each having two. DuBois was in goal and had three saves.

The Kingsmen are 6-11 on the year and have one more non-conference game on Sunday before jumping back into conference play. Cal Lutheran host Toronto at 10 a.m.
