Cal Lutheran Golf Finishes Top 25 in Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS — With the conclusion of the 2018 NCAA Division III golf season, the Cal Lutheran Men's and Women's Golf teams finished fourteenth and twenty-fifth in the Golfstat Team Rankings, respectively.

Sitting at No. 20 heading into the SCIAC Championships, the Kingsmen's performance elevated them to No. 14 in the latest rankings. The men took second in the tournament and three players finished in the top ten. A three-under-par in the final round moved Cal Lutheran up two spots to finish eleven-over-par.

As a whole, the team took home two other top-three finishes this season. They locked in first at the Centenary/Hal Sutton Invite in Bossier City, Louisiana, placing four Kingsmen in the top five. Cal Lutheran then went on to finish third the following weekend at the West Cup Invitational behind Slater Sivage's second place-performance at four-over-par.

The Kingsmen also garnered two all-conference honorees. Named to the All-SCIAC second team and PING All-West Region Team, Tyler Ferrier led the way with a team-best eight rounds of par or better. One of the team's leading freshman, Ryan Kyaw was also named to the All-SCIAC First Team, finishing in the top ten at five invites this season.

The Regals also cracked the top 25 this season with three top-three finishes as a team. They took home first at the Centenary Invitational, sweeping the podium with Marissa McCardell, Erica Mitchell and Ally Gaskill finishing first, second and third, respectively. The team additionally took second at the Regals Invitational and third at the SCIAC No. 1.

Two women were additionally named to the All-SCIAC team. McCardell became the first Regal in program history to be named to the all-conference first team. During the season, she collected first at the Centenary Invitational and third at the SCIAC No. 1 and Regals Invitational. In 15 rounds of golf, she recorded a stroke average of 78.2 and three more top-ten performances.

Gaskill also garnered all-conference second team honors for the second year in a row. She is only the second golfer in program history to be named to multiple-SCIAC teams. The junior finished in the top ten three times, including her third place finish at the Centenary Invite.
