CLU Hosts Ten Elite Training Camps

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Join the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen and Regals as they host ten sports camps throughout the remainder of 2018 designed for high school athletes looking to play at the next level. The camps allow athletes to gain collegiate exposure and learn from the CLU basketball, football, soccer, tennis and volleyball coaching staffs. Dates and brief information for each camp is provided below including links to additional information and registration.

Women's Basketball

Team Clinic – June 23, August 18, September 16
Individual Camp – June 22, August 17, August 18

The Team Clinic is open to girls' high school and club teams looking for collegiate-level training and competition. Each team will participate in skills clinic sessions during the day directed by the coaching staff and student-athletes. 

The Individual Camp is open to all girls grades 8-12 interested in playing at the next level. The three-hour intensive focuses on elevating skills specific to point guard, perimeter and post play. It also includes a campus tour, classroom session on college admission and financial aid, and Q&A session with current Regals basketball players. 

Regals Head Coach Lindsy Samaniego has led the team to five consecutive SCIAC Tournament appearances and twice to the tournament finals. Joining the CLU staff in 2013, she has accrued an 82-50 record in five years as head coach, the third most wins by any coach in program history. 

Men's Basketball

Elite Camp – June 16, September 29

The annual Elite Camp is all-day intensive is open to boys grades 9-12 with the desire to play at the collegiate level. Campers have the opportunity to work with the Cal Lutheran coaching staff, learn about the college admission and financial aid process, tour the campus and gain exposure to collegiate-level competition. 

Kingsmen Head Coach Tim Fusina joined the Cal Lutheran staff last June as the twelfth head coach in program history. Before coming to the west coast, Fusina spent four years as the head coach at Centenary University in New Jersey where he led the team to the first two winning seasons in program history and two Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament appearances.

Football

Rising Stars Camp – Feat. The University of Texas Coaching Staff – June 8
Rising Stars Camp – Feat. The Texas Christian University Coaching Staff – June 15 

The non-padded half day workout is aimed at preparing high school athletes for collegiate play. Participants have the opportunity to get college exposure and detailed on-field instruction from nationally-renown coaches. This summer, the CLU coaching staff is joined by guests from the University of Texas and Texas Christian University.

Head Coach Ben McEnroe is entering his twelfth season at helm of Kingsmen football. Since his return to Cal Lutheran in 2007, he has led the program to five SCIAC championships and four appearances in the NCAA Division III championships.

Men's and Women's Soccer

College Soccer Clinic – July 18
Regals Soccer Overnight ID Camp – July 30-August 1

The College Soccer Clinic on July 18 is open to all high school or junior college athletes, male and female, with the desire to play at the next level. The one-day clinic includes strength, speed and agility training with CLU Director of Strength and Conditioning, Pat Holmberg; two training sessions with the soccer staff; a campus tour; and classroom sessions on college admission, financial aid and playing at the collegiate level. 

The Regals Overnight ID Camp, for female athletes, extends the training sessions and classroom discussions across three days, July 30 through August 1, providing athletes with more on-field instruction and the opportunity to experience living on a college campus. Overnight campers will stay in the CLU residence halls and have meals in the Ullman Dining Commons.

Regals Head Coach Frank Marino was named the 2017 SCIAC Coach of the Year after leading the team to the regular season conference title and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. In his nine years of coaching, Marino holds five SCIAC regular season titles and one conference tournament title in route to 136-45-17 overall record, the second-most wins by any coach in program history.

Head coach of the Kingsmen, Miguel Ruiz, is entering his first year at Cal Lutheran. He previously coached for the CSUN women's soccer program, developing the team's training regimens and handling soccer operations. He then became the head coach for the women's soccer team at Moorpark College in 2015, extending his coaching tenure to over a decade. 

Tennis

CLU Tennis Camp – June 18-22 

The Cal Lutheran tennis program is hosting a summer camp for boys and girls ages five to 18 interested in improving their skills and learning from nationally and internationally accomplished coaches Mike Gennette and Jerry Yu. The five-day camp separates athletes based on age and skill level, guiding them through daily dynamic warm-ups, modern stroke technique training, footwork, strategy, mental coaching, competition and more. 

Head Coach Mike Gennette enters his 26th season at the helm of the men's tennis program and is in his second season as head coach of the women's team in 2018-19. During his tenure at CLU, Gennette has coached Kingsmen student-athletes to 26 NCAA All-America honors, led by the 1996 NCAA singles champion Mark Ellis and the 1997 NCAA doubles champions Ellis and Jenia "Eugene" Karimov. 

Women's Volleyball

All-American Volleyball Camp – July 13-15 

The camp is led by the 2015 NCAA Division III National Championship coaching staff and features over 15 hours of on-court instruction. With the help of current Regals volleyball players, the camp has a low camper-to-coach ratio (10:1) with overnight chaperones. On-campus housing in CLU residence halls and meal plans for the Ullman Dining Commons are provided for overnight campers.The three-day camp also includes expert speakers on strength training, nutrition and recruiting and detailed player evaluations from the coaching staff. 

Head Coach Kellee Roesel led the Regals to their first national title in program history in 2015, guiding the team to a 31-5 record and sixth straight SCIAC crown. In her 12 years at CLU, she holds a 308-76 record, the most wins by any coach in program history, as well as, 10 NCAA tournament appearances and seven SCIAC championships. 

Men's Volleyball

Elite Kingsmen Volleyball Camp – July 16-18 

The camp features over 15 hours of on-court instruction and low camper-to-coach ratio (10:1) with overnight chaperones. On-campus housing in CLU residence halls and meal plans for the Ullman Dining Commons are provided for overnight campers. The three-day camp also includes expert speakers on strength training, nutrition and recruiting and detailed player evaluations from the coaching staff. 

Head Coach Kevin Judd was named the first NCAA men's volleyball coach in Cal Lutheran history in fall of 2015, after being named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Assistant Coach of the Year for his contribution to the women's volleyball 2015 NCAA Division III National Championships title. In the men's program's short three year tenure, he has lifted the Kingsmen to No. 12 in the nation in the AVCA poll.
