Kingsmen, Regals host Cal Lutheran Tournament

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran University men's and women's basketball teams are hosting the California Lutheran Tournament Thursday through Saturday inside Gilbert Arena.

The men's side includes the Kingsmen, Hamline and Williams. The women's side consists of the Regals, Buena Vista, La Verne and Pacific Lutheran. Both Cal Lutheran teams will play two games. The men take on Hamline Thursday at 6 p.m. and then Williams Saturday at 4 p.m. The women go up against Pacific Lutheran Thursday at 4 p.m. and Buena Vista Friday at 4 p.m.

A look at the men's teams:
Cal Lutheran (2-4)
The Kinsgmen are led by Austin Cole and Kyle Ferreria who average 19.7 and 17.5 points per game, respectively. Blake Miles is the third Kingsmen scoring in double-digits and adds 12.8. Connor Cole averages 6.8 rebounds per game and Ferreira has 4.2 assists per game. The Kingsmen are tops in the nation for fewest fouls committed (83) and are second in the nation for fewest turnovers (65).

Hamline University (3-5)
Zach Smith is the leading scorer for the Pipers and averages 13 PPG. Isaac Brooks is right behind him with 12.6. Dylan See-Rockers averages 5.3 RPG and Zach Smith dishes out 4.4 APG. The Pipers rank ninth in the nation for fewest turnovers (86).

Williams College (8-1)
The Ephs are ranked fifth in the nation according to D3hoops.com. Kyle Scadlock scores a team-high 18.0 PPG and leads in rebounds with 8.6. James Heskett and Bobby Casey add 14.3 and 13.6 PPG, respectively. Four players average 2.0 or more assists per game. The Ephs rank sixth in the nation for field-goal percentage defense (36.1) and seventh in defensive rebounds per game (33.33).

A look at the women's teams:
Cal Lutheran (6-3)
Kiana Gray leads the Regals with 9.8 PPG. Five more Regals average five or more PPG. Kayla Watterson is second on the team in scoring with 9.1 and leads the team in RPG with 12.3. Her rebounds per game ranks 19th-best in the nation. Rylie Wada leads the team with 2.9 APG and Grace Derksen has 1.2 steals per game.

Buena Vista (4-5)
The Beavers have four players that average 10-plus PPG. Morgan Muhlbauer is the leading scorer at 15.1 and has a shooting percentage of 62.5. Three players average more than 2.0 APG. Claudia Larson leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game. Defensively, she has 3.4 blocks per game, which is third-best in the nation. Five players average more than one SPG. The Beavers rank 30th in the nation for blocked shots per game (5.2).

La Verne (2-6)
Clarissa Perez leads the Leopards and ranks second in the nation with 24.6 PPG. Alexa Withers has the most rebounds on the team with 5.3 per game. Nyjeeiah Ganan leads the team in assists with 2.5 and Perez has 2.5 SPG. Perez has also made the 17th-most three point fields in the nation (33). The team ranks 13th in offensive rebounds per game (20) and 21st in three-point field goals made per game (8.1).

Pacific Lutheran (3-5)
Madison Salisbury leads the Lutes with 11.9 PPG. Four more players average 5.0 or more PPG. Anna Hurd has 6.4 RPG and Salisbury has 5.1. Emma Janousek is the team leader in assists and steals with 2.5 and 2.6, respectively. The team ranks 55th in three-point field goal defense and hold offenses to 24.8 percent.
