Kingsmen and Regals take on CMS

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's and women's swimming and diving teams took on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday in the Samuelson Aquatics Center. CMS swept the dual as the Stags defeated the Kingsmen 155-72 while the Athenas topped the Regals 178-65.

For the scoring system, the three fastest relay teams received points. First-place earned 11 points, second was awarded four and third got two. For individual events, first received nine points, second got four, third got three, fourth got two and fifth got one.

On the men's side, Jonah Hobbs led the Kingsmen with two event titles. He claimed the 1,000-yard free as he touched in at nine minutes and 55.57 seconds. He also tied for first in the 500-yard free with a time of 4:49.40.

CLU won two more events as Jacob Frigard and Zach Zamecki took home individual titles. Frigard won the 50-yard free with a quick time of 21.67. Zamecki was first in the 200-yard free as he finished with 1:45.34.  

The Violet and Gold had three runner-up finishes as Stephen Blaauw, Frigard and Andreas Nybo all came in second for an event. Blaauw was second in the 1,000-yard free with 10:01.47, Frigard was the runner-up in the 100-yard free with 48.07 and Nybo was second in the 200-yard individual medley with 1:57.16.

For the women, Mardell Ramirez was the top performer with two event titles. She took home the title for the 200- and 500-yard frees with times of 1:57.48 and 5:18.65, respectively.

Grace Sanchez added another win for the Regals as she won the 50-yard free with a fast time of 24.69.

Cal Lutheran added two runner-up finishes and one third-place finish. Alexia Rojas placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.23. Sanchez was second in the 100-yard free with 54.65. Melody Pope turned in third-place finish for the 1,000-yard free with a time of 11:24.31.

The Kingsmen and Regals continue the season at home and host Whittier Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
