Cal Lutheran Adds Women’s Lacrosse for 2020

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran Athletics Director Dan Kuntz announced Tuesday afternoon the addition of women's lacrosse as the program's 22nd varsity sport with the inaugural season set for spring of 2020.

"Ventura County has a tremendous talent pool of lacrosse athletes and the sport is growing quickly in the area. We look forward to welcoming many of the top women's lacrosse student-athletes to the Cal Lutheran community to compete as Regals," said Kuntz.

Cal Lutheran becomes the seventh team in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference to include a women's lacrosse team. The Regals join Claremont-Mudd-Scrips, Chapman, Occidental, Redlands, Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier (schools listed by 2017 standing).

The extension to seven SCIAC lacrosse teams now allows the conference to send their conference tournament champion as an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championships.
