McGee, Perez and Ramirez Earn SCIAC AOW Honors

LOS ANGELES – This afternoon the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the Week Twenty-one Athlete of the Week honorees and Cal Lutheran's Kristi McGee was selected as the women's water polo AOW, Sienna Perez earned the softball AOW and Mardell Ramirez was named the women's swimming and diving AOW.

On Saturday, McGee helped the Regals start the season 2-0. CLU defeated Carthage 12-4 and then beat Cal State Monterey Bay 6-2. A native of Agaura Hills, Calif., she led the team with four goals and two assists. Against CSUMB, the senior center-defender scored five of the six goals and recorded three steals. Over the two-game span, she tallied nine goals on 12 shots.  

Ramirez earned her second AOW award of the season. Hailing from Santa Monica, Calif., the swimmer helped the Regals top the Caltech Beavers at the Pomona-Pitzer Challenge. The junior freestyler led CLU as she won the 200- and 500-yard freestyles with times of 1:54.52 and 5:12.43, respectively. She also placed second in the 100-yard free with 53.38 and was on the third-place 400-yard free relay team (3:45.98).

Perez claimed the first softball AOW award of the year as she helped the Regals defeat Pacific Lutheran 2-0 and 6-1. In the Regals' 2-0 win, the freshman recorded a complete game, as she struck out two batters, and only allowed seven hits. In the second game against the Lutes, the Whittier, Calif., native registered an RBI and scored a run.

The SCIAC Athlete of the Week series is released each Monday throughout the academic year.
