Road Recap: MG Third, WG Fifth After Day One

TYLER, Texas – The Cal Lutheran men's and women's golf teams competed in day one of the Al and Nancy Jones Memorial Monday at Hollytree Country Club and the Cascades Golf Club, respectively. The par for both golf courses is 72. The men's team played 36 holes and the women shot 18.

CLU finished day one in third-place at 42-over-par with 618 strokes (309-309), nine strokes behind the leader, University of Texas at Tyler. There are a total of six teams 53 individuals competing in the tournament.

Cal Lutheran's Tyler Ferrier leads the Kingsmen at 10-over-par. He fired a 73 in the first round which tied for the second-lowest of the round. In the second, he had a rough outing and recorded an 81. He is tied for 13th-place with 154 strokes. He tied for the second-best scoring average on par-three and par-five holes with 3.10 and 4.70, respectively.

The Violet and Gold's Stefan Nelson had the team's second-best score on day two. Nelson shot a 78 in the first round and a 77 in the second and is tied for 15th at 11-over-par. Nelson was one of six golfers to record an eagle.

CLU's Slater Sivage and JT Snowden rounded out the team score. Sivage currently sits in a tie for 24th-place at 13-over par (80-77-157) while Snowden is one stroke back at 14-over-par (84-74-158) and is tied for 26th. Snowden recorded the second-most birdies with seven.

Drake Jones and Ricardo Torres also competed Cal Lutheran. Jones finished day one at 17-over-par (78-83-161) and tied for 29th. He is tied for the most pars with 23. Torres competed individually and tied for 38th at 20-over-par (87-77-164).

The host, the University of Texas at Tyler, is the leader in the club house at 33-over-par (305-304-609). Schreiner University is in second at 41-over-par (320-297-617). Schreiner was the only team to record a round below 300. The Kingmen are right behind Schreiner in third.

UT Tyler's Hayden Montoya is on top of the leaderboard at three-over-par. He shot a 75 in the first round and fired a 72 in the second for a total of 147 strokes. Montoya's teammates Harris Butler (72-76-148) and Nicklaus Cuny (78-70-148) are tied for second at four-over-par.

Regals Golf (Team Leaderboard | Player Leaderboard)

Cal Lutheran is in fifth-place after day one at 44-over-par with 332 strokes. The tournament includes 10 teams and 63 individuals.

Marissa McCardell leads the Regals at eight-over-par. She shot an 80 in round one and currently sits in a tie for 14th-place. She is tied for first in scoring average on par-four holes with a 4.00 average. She is also tied for the fourth-most pars made with 11.

Cal Lutheran's Chloe Barnes and Courtney Martin are tied for 23rd at 11-over-par with 83 strokes.

The Violet and Gold's Erica Mitchell and Delaney Buck both shot an 86 on the day are tied for 32nd at 14-over-par.

Southwestern is leading all teams at 21-over par after shooting a 309 in the round. UT at Tyler (A Team) is in second at 28-over-par (316) and Hardin-Simmons rounds out the top-three at 30-over-par (318).

Centenary's Jessica Varner and Southwestern's Valentina Olivieri are tied for first at three-over-par. There is a three-way tie for third as Southwestern's Emily Campbell, Texas Lutheran's Summer Swift and Tyler Junior College's Mathilde Bertuol are one stroke behind the leaders.

The teams continue the tournament Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
