ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – This afternoon the first Athlete of the Week honors for were announced by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) for all seven league sponsored sports and a pair of Cal Lutheran student-athletes was honored for performances between opening day and Sept. 10.

Seniors Molly Holloway and Brandon Kearney had hot starts for the women's volleyball and men's soccer teams, respectively, in the first week and a half of the season to garner league recognition.

Holloway has taken on a new role for the Regals in 2017 and has been an integral part of the four American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) No. 11 volleyball program victories on the young season. To date, during nine matches, she is hitting .292 with 72 kills on 168 chances in 31 sets played over nine matches. She has been solid from the service line with 11 aces thus far and has been a force at the net with 12 blocks (two solo). Holloway has contributed 90.0 points for the Regals in the opening week-plus of action. Finally, she was named to the Trinity National Tournament All-Tournament team (Sept. 1-2) to kick-start her final campaign.

On the pitch, Kearney opened his final season with eight points in the first four games, guiding the Kingsmen to a 3-1 start with a 2-0 SCIAC record. He has supplied three goals and two assists for a .231 shooting percentage. In 13 attempts, Kearney has been accurate six times for a .462 shot on goal percentage in the early goings. Additionally, both of his goals against league opponents have been game winners to help CLU to its best start in four years.

The SCIAC Athlete of the Week series is released each Monday throughout the academic year.
